Engagement Philosophy

I am committed to working with communities to co-create research that is relevant to them.  This includes processes of engagement to understand community . needs, working alongside communities to design and conduct research, and making sure the results of my research are returned to the communities in which they are conducted in a form that is interesting and understandable.
  • Understanding need. I want to conduct research that assists with decision-making, allows people to thrive in a changing climate, and answers questions that communities are curious about.
  • Working with communities. I often use a transdisciplinary approach that works with communities as co-collaborators to explore questions of interest to them and to make sure the resulting information is relevant and useful.
  • Returning research to communities. This often means public presentations of the research, but can also be news articles in the local paper, publications, fact-sheets or interactive tools. I have included several examples of the types of outreach materials below.
